How To Overcome Mental Barriers To Working Out To Achieve Success

How can I overcome my mental barriers to working out and consistently see results?

We live in an I want it now society and the fact of the matter is, most of the time, we get it.

Our smartphones have now become essential to our way of life. Everything we need is at our fingertips 24/7.

Its difficult to turn that mentality off. So when it comes to fitness, for most of us, this I want it now attitude remains the same.

Unfortunately, the results people seek from exercise do not reveal themselves immediately (i.e. slimmer waistline, toned arms and legs, a six pack, etc).

The key to overcoming your mental barriers is consistency and having the positive mental attitude to get there. Studies show that it takes approximately 21 days, or about three weeks, to develop a habit. This goes for health and fitness as well. Now, you may be thinking, I can barely exercise three days let alone 21, but there lies your first hurdle.

Believe In Yourself

The first step to achieving your goals, is to first believe you can achieve them.

Without that belief, you will fail before you even begin. Dont make the mistake of viewing your fitness journey as a mountain you have to scale or a desert you have to cross. One day will turn into two, into a week, into a month, into a year

But enjoy the journey instead of focusing on the final product.

Not all positive results of your efforts are tangible or aesthetic, nor do you have to exercise everyday to achieve success.

In fact, the immediate, non-tangible results are often times the most rewarding.

Quick Wins To Track When Starting To Exercise

Instead of focusing on things that will take longer to reach like your six pack, or toned legs and bigger biceps, see how:
your mood changes

your energy level increases
your stress level decreases

From there, focus on how you have developed an enjoyment for fitness. This is the foundation from which you can build. If you dont enjoy the process and view fitness as something you have to do or a means to an end, it wont be long before those excuses start rearing their ugly heads and your goals go out the window.

If you are new to exercise or have been on an extended break, the physiological adaptations to exercise will yield significant and frequent results. However, once the body has had a chance to adapt to this new stimulus, usually within four weeks, the frequency of results will decline, but their significance will be greater.

Write Down Your Goals To Stay Focused Long Term

Take a moment to write down your health and fitness goals and the reasons why you wish to accomplish them.

If its fat loss, get specific as to how much fat and why.

Is it to fit into your favorite pair of jeans or to feel sexy on the beach? The reasons why then become the goal, not just the generic answer of fat loss.

Write them down and place them somewhere youll see them everyday.
